COMMUTER RAIL STATIONS AND PROPERTIES
Commuter rail stations and properties are managed and developed
by Intersite Property Management Services (Pty) Ltd (Intersite).
Intersite is a wholly owned subsidiary of SARCC that was formed
in 1992.
The commuter rail portfolio comprises of 478 stations, 4 200
hectares of land and property in the major metropolitan areas
of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town.
Over and above the building of new stations, upgrading and maintaining
stations, Intersite is commercialising them and generates income
for commuter rail.
In 1998, INTERSITE was awarded a management contract by the South
African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRA) to handle the land
affairs of the National Road network of some ± 7 000 km's.
The SANRA portfolio comprises a large number of properties acquired
over the years for road construction as well as severed land and
other properties required for future road development.
In October 2000, a contract was concluded with the former Greater
Johannesburg Metropolitan Council (GJMC) to establish a property
management company, which is presently managing the property portfolio
of the new unicity and its utilities, agencies and corporate entities.
Money earned from these commercial aspects of Intersite's activities
is ploughed back into SARCC to reduce the subsidy provided by
Government.
