PRASA invests billions for delivery of 2010 FIFA World
Cup
Undoubtedly, the establishment of PRASA will result in improved efficiency in the
delivery of services, improved effectiveness of asset management and improved accountability
to the user.
Of the R25 billion injected to PRASA over the next three years, R14.7 billion will
finance the improvement of rolling stock (coaches), signalling projects, technology
infrastructure, the upgrade of stations, as well as 2010 FIFA World Cup station
upgrades.
In delivering 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup, PRASA will spend R1.75 billion. The plan
will also see a total of 2 000 train coaches refurbished while major train station
upgrades have commenced at Cape Town, Nasrec, Mabopane and Doornfontein Stations.
In addition, PRASA is currently building new generation stations at Bridge City
(eThekwini), Moses Mabhida (eThekwini) and Orlando Station in Soweto
Technology infrastructure upgrades forming part of the 2010 programme include the
passenger information and communications system.
